angela adams is a design company dedicated to the principle that one’s lifestyle should provide a constant source of inspiration.

Our Process

Everything we make begins with a drawing.

Angela started by finding abstract beauty in the natural world that others take for granted. Water moving over sand. Lichen on a granite ledge. The shape a stand of spruce makes against a gray sky. Nature gives you a lot to look at if you slow down for it.

As the drawings evolve, a pattern might turn into a hand-tufted rug, or a printed fabric or the glaze on a piece of tableware. Some only ever translate properly in a single medium, while others form our everyday core.

That has been our way since 1998, and it is why a rug of ours and a scarf of ours look like they came from the same hand. They always do.

About Angela

Angela grew up on North Haven, an island community of less than 500 residents, twelve miles off the coast of Maine in Penobscot Bay.

Her work is rooted in that upbringing; defined by the importance of community, and the rhythm of the tides. Growing up watching light and water change by the hour, Angela learned to pay attention to things other people walk past.

Angela's designs are grounded in the principle of bringing joy to the everyday in a way that is timeless and beyond the trends of the moment, and her line is defined by both its heritage pieces and its modern works.

Angela started the studio in 1998 with Sherwood Hamill as a collaborative journey in textiles and in wood. Kindred spirits in craft and love of adventure, Sherwood's furniture and Angela's rugs have always belonged together, and their showroom is a showcase of their authentic collaborative approach.

Now in it's second generation of Maine-family ownership, our Portland Showroom continues to showcase these beautiful pieces, as well as home accessories and bags that complement their philosophy that design should bring joy to the everyday.

We remain proudly independent; deeply rooted in the Maine community and dedicated to advancing craftsmanship and design in our home state.

Carefully-Sourced Natural fibers form the core of our products

Our textiles feature only natural materials; sustainably sourced cotton, jute and wool, with natural latex backing when necessary.
Our tabletop lines feature products produced in European factories that prioritize sustainability. These century-old experts produce exceptional glassware and ceramics that translate our patterns in a way that both inspires and leads.
