Gabriella Farkas’ weavings and fiber sculptures range in size from miniature to three stories high. Born in Hungary, she spent her childhood playing in nature and learned at an early age how to process wool. She studied many different classic weaving methods and always experimented with new materials. Many of her pieces look like microscopic images of sea creatures to me. Some have a rustic weathered look that I find mysterious and inviting. Her sculptural pieces hang like pure compositions that seem to have a dark secret that I don’t want to know about. She now lives and works in Los Angeles. — angela
